Marc-Antoine is son of a farmer and maple syrup producer, he became aware of the benefits of a sound stewardship of nature at an early age. With this in mind, he completed a bachelor’s degree in biotechnological engineering (2022), followed by a master’s degree in civil engineering (2025) at the University of Sherbrooke. His master’s thesis focused on the valorization of Canadian agricultural residues through the production of mycelium-based materials. During these years, Marc-Antoine became increasingly involved in the world of scientific communication through committees organizing outreach events, university courses, and a municipal advisory committee on sustainable development.
Today, Marc-Antoine Poulin is pursuing his PhD in chemical engineering under the supervision of professor Thierry Ghislain. He is specifically interested in the environmental, social, and economic impacts of industrial biochar production from lignocellulosic biomass residues in a Quebec context. He is also the recipient of the 2025 Vanier Scholarship for this project.
